Location

Rouge Bijou sits on Upper Duke Crescent, just off Enterprise Boulevard and Rouge Valley Drive West, inside the master-planned Downtown Markham community south of Highway 7 between Warden Avenue and Kennedy Road. The community has two phases: Rouge Bijou at 1 and 21 Upper Duke Crescent, and Rouge Bijou II at 39 and 57 Upper Duke Crescent.

From here, residents are a short trip from the Highway 7 and Warden corridor, the restaurants and cinema along Enterprise Boulevard, and the protected green space that follows the Rouge River through Downtown Markham.

Developer and Building Background

Downtown Markham was planned by the City of Markham in cooperation with The Remington Group, which developed most of the community, including Rouge Bijou. Both phases were completed around the end of the 2000s. Rouge Bijou II, designed by Quadrangle Architects, rises seven storeys, while the original Rouge Bijou buildings are somewhat taller at roughly ten storeys.

That mid-rise scale gives Rouge Bijou a calmer, more residential feel than the taller towers closer to Highway 7. Because it is an established resale community, buyers can view actual suites and review the condo corporation's status certificate before making a decision.

The community also includes roughly 72 acres of parkland and natural space, including the reserve along the Rouge River. Nearby neighbourhood parks include Thomas McQuay Park, which has a splash pad, and George Coathup Park.

Rouge Bijou offers a broad mix of layouts. One-bedroom-plus-den and two-bedroom-plus-den suites make up a large share of the community, alongside one-bedroom and two-bedroom suites and a small number of studios and three-bedroom layouts. Most suites fall between about 500 and 1,100 square feet, and the original Rouge Bijou buildings include some noticeably larger suites. Parking and locker arrangements vary by unit, so confirm them for any suite you are considering.

First-time buyers: One-bedroom and one-bedroom-plus-den suites offer a way into an established Downtown Markham address, and a den works well as a home office.
